Safee joins Pelita Jaya FC
National striker Mohd Safee Sali will sign a one year contract with Indonesia Super League team, Pelita Jaya FC (PJFC) on Monday.
Safee, 27, made this announcement during a press conference at the Yayasan FAS office in Kelana Jaya, Monday. He is expected to sign the contract in Krawang, West Java.
According to Safee, he made the decision to accept the offer after considering that this might be his last opportunity to fulfill his dream of playing professional football in another country.
“I am 27 and age is not on my side,” said Safee who has requested to be given the No 10 jersey which his new club has agreed to let him wear.
Safee, who became a hot property after his strong performance in the AFF Suzuki Cup last December, has worn the No. 10 jersey with Selangor and the national team since 2007. He was the top scorer with five goals to help Malaysia emerge as the new champions of Asean.
According to published reports Safee would be paid a monthly salary of about US$10,000 (RM30,360) while Football Association of Selangor (FAS) would receive US30,000 (RM91,080) from, PJFC as compensation for buying out Safee’s existing contract, which was supposed to in December 2010.
Safee began his career with Kuala Lumpur before moving to Sarawak and his star began to shine when he moved to Selangor. His last match for Selangor will be against Kuala Lumpur, on Saturday at the Shah Alam stadium.
Safee is also expected to be fielded when the national team plays Hong Kong in a friendly at the Shah Alam Stadium on Wednesday.
